The Benefits of Making your Bed Every Morning

Making bed More of kenzie blog.jpg

I know growing up you have probably heard, "Make your bed, honey." As annoying as it might sound, making your bed every day has more benefits than you think.

Some excuses others have about not making their beds are:

"No one is going to see it anyway."

"I don't have nice bedding."

"I am only going to screw it up later."

"I don't have the time."

"My pet gets cozy under my sheets, and I don't want to disturb them."

Most of you may know that I have been posting on my Instagram stories that I have made my bed every morning in January. I was participating in the #makeyourbedeverydaychallenge created by @herlifesparles on Instagram. I have done this every morning for years before this challenge, but I thought it would be nice to inspire others to make their bed.

This challenge brings me to this blog post; I wanted to inspire you by showing you that I make my bed every day and realized I could also share the benefits and reasons.

In high school, I would always make my bed just because my mother made me. In college, there would be times that I didn't make my bed because I would be in a rush, and I didn't understand the benefits. Once I started making my bed again halfway through college, and trust me, I didn't have nice bedding. I began to realize the advantages and have been making my bed every day ever since.

My dog loves sleeping under my sheet in the morning but isn’t mad when disturbed for the bed to be made. Pets like clean rooms too!

Great Start to the Day

Waking up every morning and making your bed first provides you with a feeling of accomplishment. It is the first task you have completed, and it is easy. Making the bed can also be the first decision you make to create a great START to your day.

Create healthy Habits

Healthy habits help prevent health conditions and provide ways to take care of yourself. The process of making your bed is a healthy habit because it gets your body moving and blood pumping right away. Boosting your productivity is another healthy habit making your bed can provide you.

When I started making my bed again in college, I noticed a difference in my productivity. It began as the first task of the day for me to accomplish. Once I finished that task, I was then motivated to finish my next responsibility for the day; this created a chain effect, which then brought me to the end of my day, where I felt accomplished for my actions.

IMPROVE YOUR MOOD

Reducing stress can be so important, and making your bed is one way to do it. Getting good sleep reboots your body and can sharpen your decision-making and judgment. The National Sleep Foundation (NSF) conducted a survey that suggested people who get long hours of sleep were the surveyors who bed their made. They also found these surveyors felt better when going to bed in a comfortable and clean bedroom.

ENCOURAGES YOU TO KEEP YOUR ROOM NEAT

Making your bed in the morning will provide neatness that is pleasing to the eye and motivate you to declutter your space and have a cleaner room.

After making my bed, I am more motivated to fold that laundry I have been dreading to fold and put away because I want my room to be decluttered and feel like a breath of fresh air.

Having everything tidy in your room can create an oasis for you to come back to and know it is time to relax.

If you don’t make your bed every day, I challenge you to do it every morning for a month and then see if you have a change in your productivity or stress levels. I would love to hear how it went.

Let me know by coming back and leaving a comment on your results.

Do you make your bed every day? Leave a comment below!

I hope this was helpful, and I am excited to hear how making your bed every day has helped you or how the challenge went.

Yours Truly,

Mackenzie Williams
